Construction work in Modesto, California, has increased
Moving activity in Modesto, California, has spurred new construction and renovation projects in the Northern California city.
Residents say that a strong sense of community is what's driving rising construction, reported the Sacramento Bee. Families that have lived there their entire lives are choosing to breathe new life into their homes with renovation projects, while people that had lived there as children are moving back to start families of their own. That has local construction companies busy, developing a handful of homes in the same neighborhoods while overhauling others. "We have several projects about to start in the neighborhood. People there are investing in their quality of life," architect Sharon Sample told the paper. "The College-Enslen neighborhood always will be the desirable part of Modesto that people seek to live in. There is a great sense of community there." On a national basis, the housing market hasn't been as kind to the construction industry. Fewer families relocated to new homes over the summer, fueling a drop in construction jobs in 276 out of 337 metro areas, according to the Associated General Contractors of America.
