Home improvements can raise the value of the property before selling
People who are moving might overlook minor defects or flaws in their home when trying to sell it.
But such defects, especially those in the foundation, are red flags that can make or break a home sale, said Walter Molony, an expert with the National Association of Realtors. Most home sales require a satisfactory home inspection, so major faults can derail a sale before it happens. Home sellers are advised not only to make home improvements that will make them feel good, like a fresh coat of paint or updating carpeting, but also to make key repairs to correct safety issues. It's risky to put off fixing a damaged foundation. If a crack starts to enlarge or a wall starts to buckle, you're seeing a failure that is probably going to get worse. The longer you wait, the more extensive the problem becomes and the more expensive the repair is going to be." Before putting their home on the market, movers should have a real estate agent perform a home inspection and see if their property requires any major repairs.
