Rising job growth in Massachusetts could attract relocating workers
The jobs picture in Massachusetts is better than that of most states, which could bring more relocating families to the Bay State.
Massachusetts added 2,100 new jobs in August following a revised gain of 15,200 jobs in July, reported the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. While August brought only a modest improvement, it did mark seven straight months of improving employment figures, amounting to 64,300 new jobs in Massachusetts since December 2009. So far this year, the state ranks third in job growth nationwide, and at 8.8 percent, the state's unemployment rate also ranks among the lowest. Private jobs in the Bay State continue to attract relocating workers, as the private sector added 4,000 new jobs in August - primarily in the leisure and hospitality and construction industries. Roughly 1,900 government jobs were lost as more temporary Census positions evaporated. While it appeared that the rate of job growth in the state slowed in August, economist Alan Clayton-Matthews explained to the Patriot Ledger that August's lower rate was likely just a normalization of higher rates the previous six months. "The bottom line is, we're continuing to grow. We would expect it to slow somewhat, but still be faster than the rest of the country." More News |
