Moving back home can be an enjoyable experience for those who make the most of it.
Given the current state of the economy, the number of people moving back home after college or even later in life has drastically increased. According to the U.S. Census, 56 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 29 reported moving back home in 2010.
Though returning home can be difficult for various social and logistic reasons, the Huffington Post has provided some tips that may improve the moving process. People who wind up in a situation where they must return home should make a six-month plan, the source recommends. Figuring out estimates of financial goals and how long they believe they will need to remain home before they can get back on their feet may help ease the process of asking their parents if they can move back in. If parents agree to allow them to move back in, they should form a contractual agreement, more for expressing formal intentions than for legal purposes. Having ways to contribute to the household is also important, the Post says. Even if there isn't a formal rental agreement, helping out with groceries and contributing to maintenance and bills may be a good way to show appreciation. Once home, reconnecting with friends can also ease the process and the new burdens that can be brought on by readjusting to the lifestyle of living with parents. More News |
