Many of the top earners in the country are moving to Florida
Many of the top income-earners in the country are moving to Florida and Texas, said a recent report.
Forbes Magazine used Internal Revenue Service data to break down moving trends across the nation, concluding that many of the country's richest people are moving to counties in Florida and Texas. The driving force behind these moves could be the lack of an income tax in those states, said the report. "If you're a high-income earner, then that, from a tax perspective, is going to be a driving decider if you're going to move to one of those two states," Robert Shrum, a tax manager, told Forbes. In 2008, Florida's Collier County brought in 15,150 new residents with an average annual income of $76,161 per person, or about $304,644 for a family of four. Emigrants mainly came from other Florida counties, though many came from areas around large northern cities like Chicago and New York, said the report. The study also found regions that aren't currently wealthy but where rich people are moving, like Westchester County, New York. Loudoun County, Virginia is America's richest county, with a median household income of $110,643 annually, according to Forbes.
