Baby boomers hitting retirement rather take vacations than relocate, according to an AARP survey.
The first generation of baby boomers are turning 65 in 2011, yet it doesn't seem that relocation is a part of their retirement plans, according to a recent AARP survey.
Unlike previous generations, baby boomers aren't planning on packing up and moving to Florida. Only 2 percent said they have plans to move, while 4 percent want to buy a second home. Instead, 61 percent of those surveyed said they'd like to travel more and 44 percent said they plan on using their free time to take classes or become involved in new activities. "This is a generation that started identifying who they are with what they do, so it’s no surprise that they plan on staying active for as long as they can,” said AARP executive vice president Steve Cone. Thirty-two percent of boomers reported that their finances are one of their biggest concerns. A secure life insurance policy can not only provide a blanket of financial reassurance, and in some states like New York, there are laws that allow policies to also cover long-term care expenses that may come with age.
