Relatively new cities in Miami-Dade County appear to be growing that older areas.
More residents in the Miami-Dade area seem to have moved to the newest cities in the region which were incorporated since the 2000 census, according to the Miami Herald.
The source says three of the Miami-Dade County's newest cities - Cutler Bay, Doral and Miami Gardens - experienced more growth than the average growth across the county over the past decade. Census reports showed that Doral doubled in size, while Cutler Bay experienced nearly a 20 percent increase in population. As for Miami Gardens, which became a city in 2003, the source reports the population rose enough to make it one of the 20 most populated cities in Florida. According to the source, some Miami Gardens officials believe the city becoming incorporated is what allowed its population to grow from an estimated 105,414 in 2004 to 107,167 in 2010. "We think a lot of the people who moved away before we incorporated for a more luxurious or better life are moving back because we have a wide range of offerings now that can satisfy those needs,’" Miami Gardens city manager Danny Crew told the source. Though that particular area may have grown a significant amount, other areas in Florida experienced much lower population growth over the decade than normal, according to statewide census reports.
