A strong jobs market is among the reasons why Oklahoma City is considered an affordable city
Those moving to Oklahoma City might be able to stretch their paychecks further.

The city ranked as the most affordable in the country, according to a report by Forbes. The magazine analyzed the cost-of-living, economic prosperity and jobs market in a number of metropolitan areas around the country, highlighting Oklahoma City for its wealth of employment opportunities and affordable lifestyle. The city also has an abundance of higher education options, which experts say is a positive because that normally leads to a stable jobs market and plenty of cultural diversity.

Pittsburgh came in second, highlighted for its long history of affordable living. Oklahoma City was also one of a handful of Southern cities to be included in the top 10. San Antonio, Houston and Austin came in sixth, seventh and tenth, respectively, while Louisville, Kentucky, and Birmingham, Alabama, were also at the bottom of the top 10.

Moving to cities in Texas has also traditionally been popular among wealthier Americans, mainly because the state does not tax income. Earlier this year, Forbes reported that the state has become a popular relocation destination among company executives, especially since many major companies are relocating to the area for its business-friendly economic climate.
