Winter storms are making some available real estate properties virtually impossible to access.
The harsh winter weather, including numerous storms, has resulted in more snowfall than usual and is making it difficult for some to actively search for a new home, according to the New York Times.
Some house hunters in Westchester County have had a difficult time touring homes due to significant snow coverage sometimes blocking driveways, pathways and doors leading into available properties. Real estate agents have been sacrificing their appearance to be able to reach the homes they are trying to sell by wearing heavy coats and large snow boots, according to the source. One agent has even had to resort to extremely creative ways of showing a home, she told the times. She has reportedly had to access homes by horseback and by skis, she said. But besides appearance, the poor weather is also impacting how potential homebuyers feel about the properties they are viewing, causing some to pass up snow-covered options with the belief that access will be a regular obstacle each winter. "Nothing discourages a buyer more than if they can't even make it out of the car to get to the front door," president of a local listing service, Gary Leogrande, told the news source. Despite these obstacles, Westchester's housing market has continued to recover, according to Westfair Online. More News |
