The Bay State's housing market is on the rise
A recent report could indicate an uptick in homebuyers moving to Massachusetts.
In fact, 5,726 homes were sold in the Bay State in June, the most in any month since June 2006, reported real estate research firm The Warren Group. With a 28 percent increase in sales last month, Massachusetts has experienced five straight months of double-digit home sale increases. About 14,090 properties changed hands in the second quarter, 35 percent more compared to Q2 2009 and the most in any quarter since July through September 2006. Median home prices also shot up 7 percent in June and now sit at $325,000. "It appears buyers were aggressive in June. The spring season is historically good for the real estate market. That factor paired with the tax credit made for a very strong month," said the group's CEO, Thomas Warren. To date, 21,400 homes have been sold in Massachusetts, an increase of 28 percent over the previous year. That's good news for the Massachusetts economy, which also saw some positive gains in job growth, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. A strong housing market and employment could encourage some fence-sitters to move to Massachusetts.
