Home sales jumped up almost 24 percent last month
Home sales figures are on the rise, and could indicate that Americans are getting the confidence, and funds, to move again.
About 330,000 units sold in June, a 23.6 percent increase from the previous month, according to the Department of Commerce. Median home sale prices also rose, from $200,900 in May to $213,400 last month, according to the report. On the other hand, the amount of homes sold were down 16.7 percent when compared to the 396,000 that changed hands in June 2009. The Northeast experienced the most housing growth, with home sales almost doubling in June. About 41,000 homes sold in that region last month, up 46.4 percent from the previous month, said the department. Month-to-month sales also jumped 33.1 percent in the South. "This is welcome news, although month-to-month housing data are volatile," said Rebecca Blank, the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs at the department. "But one key ingredient for a healthy housing market is job growth, and the President remains tightly focused on ensuring that the labor market continues to recover." Consumers who have bought a new home should compare the cost of moving services before making the move.
