Home prices in the nation's capital are on their way up
Homeowners in the Washington, D.C. area are selling their homes for more money and moving quicker.
September data from RealEstate Business Intelligence revealed that homes in the region are spending 8 fewer days on the market, selling in an average 88 days, down from 96 a year ago. Families were also selling their homes for a median price of $326,079 in September, up from $317,192 a year earlier. Moving activity has been on a steady rise all year, with year-to-date home sales 13 percent higher than they were at this point last year. "The Washington metropolitan region's housing market continues to show signs of recovery, especially in the District and adjacent counties," said Jonathan Hill, president of RBI. "The encouraging news is while some counties have a decrease in the number of homes sold year to date, on average, the sales price of homes has increased." Washington, D.C.'s job market could be driving a large number of workers into relocating to the region. In an analysis of a number of factors, including cost-of-living, income levels and ease of finding a job, The Daily Beast recently ranked the city as one of the top places for relocating workers to restart their career.
