Hungarian actress Zsa Zsa Gabor is selling the Bel Air mansion she purchased from the Elvis Presley estate during the 1970s.
Legendary actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, who many claim was the first "professional celebrity" of her kind, and husband Frederic Prinz von Anhalt have put their Bel Air mansion on the market for almost $28 million, according to AOL Real Estate.
The massive 8,000-square-foot home was built by the late aviator and eccentric industrialist Howard Hughes, before becoming the property of rock star Elvis Presley for four years during the height of his film career. The 94-year-old Gabor purchased the home, which contains 26 rooms and one pool, from the Presley estate for $600,000 during the 1970s, reported the news site. Gabor's husband told Reuters the tremendous home was simply too large for the couple in their old age, and they plan on packing their boxes and moving into a smaller condo more suited to their needs. "We only use two rooms, all the other rooms are locked up. It doesn't make sense for two people to live in such a big place," he told the news source. Gabor's mansion is significantly more expensive than the average home in the prestigious California neighborhood. Zillow's Home Price Index reports that the average Bel Air home currently sells for approximately $1.8 million, 10.3 percent lower than this time last year. More News |
