Students at Brooklyn College will now have the opportunity to live on campus
Long known as a commuter school, Brooklyn College is now giving its students the opportunity to live on campus.
The school opened its first residence hall in the Flatbush region of Brooklyn, reported the New York Daily News. The dorms on Farragut Road will house 280 students in studio apartment-style rooms, which can be rented for an average of $700 a month. Students are excited to be moving into the eight-story residence hall, and residents are happy to have them in the neighborhood. "I welcome them all," Hardeep Singh, manager of the local restaurant Crown Fried Chicken, told the paper, adding that his eatery is becoming popular among the college crowd looking for a late-night snack. "Last [week] around midnight about 15 students came in. This is becoming normal for us." The college developed the building for $4.1 million. Students can move into private or shared units, which include shared bathrooms and small kitchen areas already furnished with microwaves and refrigerators. With college moving season at its height, students are advised to find out ahead of time what their school will allow them to bring or may already have before moving, in order to avoid having any possessions rejected. Additionally, renting a small moving storage unit might help them transport their items to their school.
