More college graduates are moving back to Nebraska, said a report
Attending college in Nebraska has traditionally been a popular option for many Americans, but that state has historically had problems preventing their graduates from moving away.
A growing jobs market might be reversing that trend, according to government data. The Census Bureau's American Community Survey showed that in 2009, about 1,600 more college graduates moved into the state than moved out. That helped the state post its biggest population gain in decades last year, and also played a part in Nebraska's tenth place finish among states that saw the greatest number of people moving in compared to moving out. It's a reversal of past trends, where college graduates have traditionally fled the state in large numbers. From 1995 to 2000, the state lost 4,000 college graduates, said the report. Recent migrants admit that they moved back because of the state's improving economy. "If it wasn't for the economy, I probably wouldn't be here,'' resident Wesley Miller told the Omaha World-Herald. "I'm very blessed to have a great job with a really great company.'' Relocating for work or economic reasons has traditionally been a popular concept among some Americans, although a report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas revealed that the state of the housing market has forced many employees to reconsider moving for a job.
