Downtown Denver was named a great neighborhood by the American Planning Association
For those considering moving, downtown Denver might present an attractive relocation option.
Once characterized by railroad tracks and derelict warehouses, the urban locale has been reborn as a trendy and historic hotspot, according to the American Planning Association, which named it as one of the year's top neighborhoods. Chic restaurants, clubs and art galleries are found amongst the Victorian architecture, and Downtown Denver blends the historic with the modern, retaining much of its classic industrial feel even as it's updated over the years, said the report. The APA also highlighted a number of other well-known regions as great neighborhoods, including the Riverside Avondale portion of Jacksonville, Florida, and Oak Park, Illinois' Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District. Each neighborhood could be an attractive relocation destination for someone who admires fine architecture and a wealth of attractions, said the report. The organization's Great Places in America list began in 2007, showcasing well-planned areas that are considered attractive and functional. "Places of distinction and unique character are found not only in big cities or selected states, but everywhere," said the group's CEO, W. Paul Farmer. Downtown Denver's spot on the list could encourage more people to consider moving into there. The city has already enjoyed an improved rental market as more people are moving into apartments, driving Denver's vacancy rate down to 6.1 percent in the second quarter, according to Colorado's Division of Housing.
