Experts say Colorado needs to do more to attract relocating companies
Moving to Colorado might be even more popular if the state did more to entice relocating businesses, reported the Denver Post.
Relocation experts at a recent economic convention at the Hyatt Regency Denver said that the state has traditionally had a reputation as being less-than-accommodating towards relocating businesses. The state might be able to attract more attention from the national business community if they were willing to provide businesses with financial incentives, said the report. "Colorado has not traditionally had the reputation for being a big incentives state, being pro business, bringing in huge companies and paying them a lot of money to come here," Tracey Bosman of Grubb & Ellis said. "Unfortunately that frequently translates into 'They must not be pro-business.'" Panelists also added that relocating businesses will frequently look to see if the state is able to retain its own local businesses. If homegrown companies have to head to other states to support their growth, it could put a stain on Colorado's reputation. Recently, other states have enticed relocating corporations with low taxes and steady job growth. Texas, in particular, has become popular in the business community, with two California tech companies recently moving there.
