Many homeowners overspend and forget the importance of saving money when moving into a new house.
Moving into a new home can be stressful, and new homeowners can sometimes lose track of the necessary tasks and obligations they have. Drawing up an accurate plan at the beginning of the process is an important tool for combating forgetfulness, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Many new homeowners forget the importance of financial conservatism after moving into their new home, the source says. Some begin spending money on improvements immediately. "You start thinking, 'I have to make this place look great for the housewarming,' and pretty soon you want to replace everything," Donald Phoenix, a director at NeighborWorks America, told the source. Homeowners should keep a solid budget, the source suggests, and avoid making purchases they cannot afford. New homeowners may also benefit from deciding how long they plan to stay in a particular home and determining where and when they believe their next move may be, according to the source. Having this plan in tow may help them avoid making expensive changes or additions to a home that they do not intend to stay in. The second issue may not be as much of a problem in the current economy. With home values declining nationwide, many homeowners will have to stay put in their homes for an extended period of time before being able to profit from its sale. More News |
