New York's high taxes have driven away many wealthy residents - including Rush Limbaugh
As a conservative commentator, Rush Limbaugh has long voiced his displeasure with New York's high taxes on real estate and high-income earners.
It appears the radio talk show host will successfully flee those taxes, choosing to sell his Manhattan home and move out of the state, reported the Wall Street Journal. Limbaugh primarily broadcasts from Florida anyway, and will likely retain his residence in that tax-free state. The condominium, located on East 86th Street in New York, was listed for $12.95 million but sold for around $11.5 million, said the report. Limbaugh has owned the property since 1994, when he bought it for $5 million. The apartment occupies the 20th floor of his building, comprising about 4,661 square feet. Limbaugh claimed on air that he only spent about 15 days a year in the city, driven away by "regular state tax audits," said the report. His move is just another example of the large number of wealthy New York residents who relocate to southern states that don't levy income taxes, like Florida and Texas. According to a Forbes report, those two states have become a particularly popular destination for America's richest citizens.
