Some Maryland cities are among the nation's best to live in
Rising home values and affordable housing have helped make one region of Maryland a popular destination among people who are moving.
The Columbia and Ellicott City area is experiencing an influx of people moving in, driven in part by their second place ranking on this year's CNN Money Magazine's "Best Places to Live" list, said Eben Realty's James Habermeh. "The ranking only serves to underscore the fact that the region is a very much sought-after place to live." According to CNN, Columbia and Ellicott City have an unemployment rate of just 5.2 percent, and major metropolitan hubs like Baltimore and Washington, D.C. are a short drive away. On top of that, the region has a diverse population and an excellent education system. Habermeh said, "It has virtually everything that you'd want your community to have - varied housing choices, a wealth of open spaces, great schools, a colorful cultural scene, and plenty of employment opportunities." Recent reports have shown that home sales in Maryland have been on the rise, displaying the state's growing profile among families on the move.
