A number of students may have to move out unexpectedly.
Many residents of the Northwood I, II and III apartment complexes at the University of Michigan were shocked to receive an email notifying them that they must vacate their apartments by April 2012, as the building will be undergoing renovations, according to the Michigan Daily.
The complex needed important internal maintenance, according to school officials. "The boilers for Northwood I, II and III are near their life's end," Peter Logan, University Housing spokesman, told the source. "So in looking at the timing of this, we thought that we really shouldn't put off the replacement of the boilers any longer than we need to." However, many students are upset that they will not be able to move back into their apartments once the renovations are complete, as incoming undergraduate students will be given preference, the source says. Though the complex is taking measures to ensure residents receive a similar apartment in other buildings in the Northwood Complex, the paper reports that some students remain concerned about the environment, higher rent costs and distant location of those buildings. In addition, they may have to consider the cost of moving. When moving unexpectedly, it may be helpful to enlist the help of a full service moving company, since it can be difficult to organize such a large move alone at the last minute. More News |
