Following certain procedures while moving out may help simplify the process.
Moving out of one home and into another can be stressful, but these tips from Good Housekeeping may help ease the process.
When packing, put aside any cleaning items you may need to use before leaving. Some homeowners may also find it helpful to keep a flashlight with them, which the source says they may need for rooms that are dark after lamps have been packed and removed. Those using full-service moving companies may also want to check with their homeowners insurance to ensure that any expensive items they may be transporting are covered, either through the moving company or their insurers, according to Good Housekeeping. For furniture that needs to be disassembled in order to be transported, make sure that all screws and other parts of the hardware are kept safe and together in a plastic bag or some other form of container, the source recommends. Finally, open all drawers and closets in the house to ensure that all items have been taken out. Sometimes things may be hiding in corners or still inside of appliances, the source says. Also, be sure to check outdoors for any items left in the yard before leaving. As a kind gesture for the home's new tenants, the source also says departing inhabitants can leave a box with important information such as appliance warranties and information for local restaurants and stores, such as takeout menus and fliers.
