Many Americans prefer living closer to their place of work
A third of Americans want to live less than 30 miles away from their job, according to a new report.
A survey 1,492 Americans by Relocation.com found that 27 percent said they would prefer moving to a home less than 10 miles away from their workplace, while 45 percent said they were OK living 11 to 30 miles away from work. Just 10 percent said living more than 30 miles away from work was preferable, while 18 percent said distance didn't matter because they worked from home. Cost of living was also an important consideration for those planning on moving, though the issue generally didn't make or break the relocation. Sixty-one percent responded that cost of living was a significant consideration, but not the most crucial factor. Indeed, at a time where employment seems to dominate the national economic conversation, moving closer to their place of work continues to be a key caveat for many Americans. Even so, recent reports have shed light on how difficult moving for work has become. Consultancy group Challenger, Gray & Christmas recently reported that fewer employees relocated for work during this year's third quarter than in the past, a sign that many Americans have chosen to pass on new jobs that required them to relocate.
