Mayor Emanuel ready to get his house back
As the newly sworn in mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, prepares to begin his first term in office, his infamous tenant is finally calling in the movers. Rob Halpin will be relocating at the end of June when his lease ends, according to the Chicago Tribune.
"We're looking at some places to move," Halpin told the Tribune Monday afternoon, hours after Emanuel was sworn in as mayor. "We will be moving." Halpin, a self-proclaimed real estate developer, refused to move out of the new mayor's home home last September after Emanuel announced his plan to step down as White House Chief of Staff and run for Chicago's highest public office, the Chicago Sun Times reports. Halpin told the newspaper that he conducted business out of the home and his children were attending school, therefeore, he did not want to move. Halpin also briefly threw his hat into the mayoral race last fall, the Tribune reports. Emanuel's campaign was plagued early on with claims that his residency status was insufficient because he had been living in Washington, D.C. The city requires that a person maintains residence in the city for one year before the election, the newspaper reports. The Illinois Supreme Court eventually ruled that he could run. More News |
