Seniors in Palo Alto can find affordable living at a new complex
The ribbon will be cut on a new California housing development geared towards low-income seniors.

Palo Alto's Alta Torre complex will provide 56 apartments for seniors, with 20 set aside for those with special needs, reported the Palo Alto Daily News. Rents start at $443 and run no higher than $742, and the apartments can house as many as three people. The complex will accommodate seniors whose annual income ranges between $10,632 to $37,280, said the paper.

Constructed for $22.9 million by BRIDGE Housing, a non-profit affordable housing development company, the complex is part of a larger mixed-use redevelopment of 12 acres of land that once housed the headquarters of Sun Microsystems. A Jewish community center and additional residential units were also developed on that land, said the report.

Seniors who are considering moving into these types of complexes will likely have to downsize, since they'll be moving from larger homes into smaller apartments. Once they've found a new home for some of their possessions, they can transport what's left to their new apartment in a portable storage device.ADNFCR-3511-ID-19923075-ADNFCR
