Americans remained worried of another housing collapse
American consumers are increasingly worried about a potential collapse of the housing market, a concern that could put a damper on some people's moving plans.

Sixty percent of survey respondents told Housing Predictor that despite homeownership being considered a key part of the American Dream, they believe that the housing market is on the verge of a collapse. Rising foreclosures and sliding home values have left most concerned that the housing market may not be able to recover from its current difficulties.

"The most severely impacted markets in Florida, Nevada, Michigan, Ohio and California among others have seen slower home sales for most of the last five years," said the report, which also pointed out that on the plus side, home prices remain low enough to entice some relocating families to consider homebuying. "Bargain hunters are picking over the inventory of foreclosures to make purchases at prices that haven't been seen in more than 20 years."

On the other hand, a separate report indicated that many Americans' fears that housing is likely to collapse again is a bit off the mark. According to Clear Capital, stabilizing home prices have created somewhat of a cushion that will prevent the market from experiencing a double-dip this year.
