Getting kids involved in the move can make relocating with children easier
Relocating to a new area can be a stressful ordeal in itself, but doing so with children can be even more tedious. There are many steps parents can take to reduce the stress on themselves and their children, according to Los Altos Town Crier.
"As a parent, it is up to you to help ease your children's stress and show them that moving can be an adventure," Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage relocation services regional vice president Peggy Nelder told the newspaper. "By setting an enthusiastic tone initially, you can make a huge difference in how your children approach and cope with relocating." The physical moving process can be particularly tiresome, so keeping kids involved by giving them a job to do may lessen the burden. Let them pack up their own rooms and label their belongings, the newspaper suggests. The same goes for unpacking. Letting them unpack and organize their new rooms will increase their interest in the home. Between choosing a moving service, packing up one's belongings, and getting acclimated to the new area, relocating can seem daunting. But making it a family adventure can reduce the burden and increase the excitement.
