World class restaurants make Traverse City a top foodie destination
While most families might not base their moving plans around the dining options in their new home, moving to a city with great food can certainly be a big perk.
To that end, Livability.com released a list of the nation's best cities for "foodies" - essentially, food enthusiasts - and there are a number of towns that some Americans might not expect in the top 10. For instance, Traverse City, Michigan, topped the list. Often referred to as the "Cherry Capital of the World," Traverse City includes a number of award-winning restaurants and wineries, and the source notes that several national publications have praised food establishments in the town for relying on products from local farms and dairies. Locals in Asheville, North Carolina - second on the list - call the city "Foodtopia" and also enjoy farm-fresh, locally grown food at a wide variety of gourmet restaurants, festivals, breweries and bakeries, said the site. "It's no secret to anyone who has dined in these cities, but many people might be surprised that these are some of the best cities for food in America," said John Hood, chief livability officer for Livability.com. "The closer you are to production, the fresher the food, and that makes all the difference in flavor and food quality." Those moving to the third-place city of Boulder, Colorado would not only enjoy great food, but also a healthy frame of mind. A report this year from the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index listed Boulder as the country's happiest and healthiest city for physical and emotional well-being. More News |
