With the recession, some say work-related relocation has slowed significantly.
With both the housing and employment markets struggling, some people are finding that real estate woes are impacting their ability to find a job, according to USA Today.
The source says that though hiring is improving in many areas and a number of people are moving to find work, some job seekers are being held back due to an inability to sell homes that they own. "Especially in the last two years we've noticed a significant reluctance and fear to sell houses," Glen Dunkerson, CEO of Atlas World Group, told the source. Atlas' relocation survey found that 69 percent of the people who turned down relocation packages from employers did so over concerns of being unable to sell the home they owned. However, experts say they believe relocation activity will begin to pick up soon and continue to work up to a full recovery in 2011. Though some may want to move to places that seem to have the best job prospects, even those who are not tied to a certain city due to homeownership should think carefully before packing up. According to the Wall Street Journal, moving solely for a low unemployment rate may be unwise. More News |
